Welcome to the Essex Weather and Flood Forecasting Centre
Dedicated to forecasting and preparing Essex for severe weather events...
At the Essex Weather and Flood Forecasting Centre in South Woodham Ferrers, building a forecast to help plan your day is something our team of weather forecasters and meteorologists take seriously.
We work together with Government agencies and public bodies using advanced technology to make sure you get a local weather forecast that’s simple and easy to understand. And we’re always watching out and tracking any threat of severe weather or flooding, so Essex is prepared.
Detailed, unbiased weather and flood forecasts are available on our web site and on local radio stations across Essex. Updated twice daily, we provide coverage of 54 towns using high resolution output from both the Met Office and European (ECMWF) computer model. In fact, we are one of only three web sites in the United Kingdom using this method for public weather forecasting.
Our network of automatic weather stations across Essex send detailed weather observations and web cam images back to our South Woodham Ferrers offices every 10 minutes and are used for local forecasting and emergency planning purposes within the county.
Follow the Essex Weather and Flood Forecasting Centre on Twitter and Facebook using the buttons at the top of each page to connect with our team so you never miss the latest forecast. You can also share your weather observations and send photographs or video of severe weather in your area.
Weather can be complex, but your weather forecast should be easy and clear – that’s why you can depend on the Essex Weather and Flood Forecasting Centre team each day.
